Branch Culture Days Schedule Announced

Branch Culture Days Weekend

July 29, 30, and 31, 2011-Branch Community Centre

Schedule of Events

Friday: July 29th, 2011

4:30PM -Mass and blessing of "The Plot" by Father Leo English, located outside the Community Centre, by the monument where the first church was built in 1848. A collection will be taken up during mass for the Branch Church Fund!

5:30PM -Sirloin tip roast supper and dessert at Community Centre ($5/person $12/family. Names must be given for the meal by Tuesday, July 26 (details to follow). A slide show of ‘then’ and ‘now’ pictures & music will be played.

6:30PM - A Magic Show by David Coffey of Cuslett

7:30PM - Local storytellers, singers, musicians, and dancers

10:30PM - Dance to the music of ‘The Didhams’ -Cover Charge $5.00 19 years of age or over.

Local entertainment during intermission.

Saturday: July 30, 2011

9:00 AM -11:30AM -Breakfast at Community Centre -$5.00/person $12/family. Juice, tea, coffee, toast, eggs, beans, bologna, and hash browns will be served. A slide show of ‘then’ and ‘now’ pictures & music will be played.

1PM-"Search for Rahee" led by Bev Power (Anyone interested in taking part, please contact Bev)

 

2:00PM -4:30PM -Children and adult activities will be held on the beach and outside the Community Centre (weather permitting) If not, activities will take place inside the Community Centre. No cover charge. Prizes will be awarded to winners of each activity.

2:30PM -5:30PM -The Reg Power Memorial Skeet Shooting contest will be held on back of the beach (weather permitting) If not, rescheduled time will be announced. Three shots for $5.00. Prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners.

8:00PM -Concert at the Community Centre -Performers include local singers, storytellers, dancers, musicians and special guests include Eleanor Dawson and Linda Byrne. An excellent program is lined up and a good time is assured for all in attendance! Feel free to come out and celebrate our heritage and culture with us and bring a friend or two along with you! Cover Charge is $5.00 for Adults; $3.00 for Children, and $7.00 for Concert and Dance

11:00PM -Dance to the music of Brian and Tony Finn -19 years of age or over cover charge $7.00 Local entertainment during intermission.

Sunday: July 31, 2011

Cold Plate supper will be available. Details to follow.

2:00PM – Display of Heritage Projects and photo albums of people and places ‘back then’; a slide show of ‘then’ and ‘now’ pictures & music will be played. 

2:30PM -2:30AM -Entertainment by solo and group performances Peter Barron, 92 year old accordion player from Freshwater; By the Sea Youth Dancers; The Bacclieu Trotters from North River; The Barbours from Ferryland; Gord Dalton and partner showcasing ‘The Jive’ (participants will be invited from the audience to take part in a training session once the dance is showcased); Delf Hohmann; Michael Dobbin and son from Admirals Beach; The Shore Boys; Petey Conway and Jimmy Lake; The Square Knot Dancers from Bell Island; The Fatima Academy Accordion Group; The Cold Burns; Ray Walsh and family; The Celtic Fiddlers and singers; The Didhams, Route 100 and The O’Rourke’s.

Awaiting confirmation from other groups! Details will follow. Admission of $5.00 for 19 years of age and over will cover all day and night.

 

**Please note the performers list for Sunday’s performance will not be in the order that they are named. The bar will be open Friday and Saturday night and all day Sunday and Sunday night to 19 years of age and over. Anyone wishing to share some old pics for the slide shows during this weekend is asked to email them to ljenglish_562@hotmail.com  or mooneypatsy20@hotmail.com Also, anyone who is interested in doing a hike and a cookout on Saturday, July 23rd starting at 11AM to ‘Little Meadows’ in Branch is asked to submit their names to Lorna English, Mary Leonard, Patsy Mooney, or Linda O’Keefe by July 21 in order for us to know how much food and refreshments to buy. A bonfire and fireworks will take place on back of the beach that night starting at 10PM. Bring along some musicians.
