One Year Anniversary for Arts centre
From The Charter
The month of May marks the one-year anniversary for the opening of the Placentia Bay Cultural Arts Centre. Congratulations to Rhonda Power, Facilities Manager, on a very successful year. To celebrate, on May 16th, the Arts Centre was filled to capacity for a Sunday afternoon of fun, entertainment, music and friends.
The audience was entertained by special guest performers Herman and Marina Harris from Harbour Grace. They sang a variety of songs but claim their favorite is country. Leading up to their performance, some of our very talented local entertainers delighted the audience. Jason Counsel, Art and Viola Pink along with Derm O'Keefe were the first group to perform.
Town employee Frank Smith made his debut on the stage with his nephew Brendan Smith and did a great job. Brendan followed up with a few solos. The show ended with Marina and Herman singing many old time favorites encouraging the audience to sing along. Then all entertainers took to the stage together for a few final numbers.
The delicious five-layer Arts Centre replica anniversary cake was made by Betty Traverse. Herman Harris, Noella Collins and Marina Harris looked on as Fred Whelan assisted Rhonda Power in the cutting of the cake.
The performance will be aired once editing is completed.
Nickel Film Festival Roadshow 2010
The 6th Annual Nickel Independent Film Festival Roadshow visited the Arts Centre on Wednesday, May 19th. The 90-minute program provided a chance to see a selection of best films from the 2009 Nickel Festival and also provided an opportunity to meet some of the filmmakers.
